A Happy Chance...

Hope you all are having a Happy Sunday Funday! Ok so another fab shop alert peeps that naturally I have to share with you all!  I stumbled on this amazing shop-owner and her adorable clothing few months back within my amazing Instagram community of course!  I live in tee's, tanks, flip flops or toms and some jeans!  To me that is the perfect outfit with fab accessories of course! And Happy Chance Apparel has unique tanks and tees that are incredibly soft and with positive messages on them! She also designs some cute trucker hats! Maryann, owner and creator of Happy Chance Apparel has an inspirational blog that I follow as well and I truly enjoy reading it.  I called her blog inspirational because to me that is how it makes me feel.  Inspires me to create, to write, to support others, to enjoy this life and everything and everyone in it and always keep my  family as my driving force.  She is real and honest and I dig that. She opens up her heart and home to her readers. She writes about real life.. family.. happiness.. struggles and depicts it through her photography and her raw and original writings, which I absolutely love because leaving an impression on people, like she has on me, is such an awesome thing to do in this little thing called life... that we all journey on day in and day out.

One of the shirts she carried and had to grab one for me and one for one of my besties has the best quote that just screamed ME.... I call it the Happy Chance Motto Tee (not sure what Maryann calls it) But it says...

"Happy Chance is for the girl who believes in love at first sight and wants a pet unicorn. She eats cupcakes for breakfast, loves thunder and lightning, and 7 is her lucky number. Happy Chance is for the daydreamers, fairytale chasers, vampire kisses, best friends and secret tellers. XOXO"

Amazing right?!!!  So please go check out her shop. She only has a few shirts in there right now, but she is always adding her new stuff and I know she is working on lots of stuff for HC.  So follow her on IG for updates.  Now if she created some type of gypsy or mermaid shirt or tank.. I would be in Heaven! lol.

Below is an exclusive interview with Maryann, which will show ya why I love this little Georgia peach!  P.S. Maryann don't kill me for my grammar mishaps. :)

XOXO, Britt

1. When did you start Happy Chance Apparel?
Happy Chance Apparel will be one year old in May! It really doesn't seem possible that I started this little dream almost a year ago. I was so afraid that nobody would like any of my shirts! Seriously. I remember getting my very first email that I had a sale! I was so overjoyed....then I opened the email, and it was my husband. hahaha What a sweet man! (It was also a bummer that it wasn't a "real customer) ;) It didn't take long for the real purchases to start coming in though!

2. How did the name come about?
To me, happy chances are life's meant-to-be moments. Happy chances are the unforgettable moments that make us who we are...they are what memories are made of. The happy chances in life are what I teach my children to cherish. That's what Happy Chance Apparel tries to capture.

3. Is your apparel line your only business venture?  Are you a stay at home mom to 2 or 3 kiddos?
Right now, yes, HC is my only business venture. Who knows what the future holds. I went to The Art Institute of Atlanta years ago, for Interior Design. Long story, but I was a very young single mom at the time, and I didn't get to finish. I would love to be able to start a decorating company someday. My husband and I are major vintage junkies. (He builds amazing furniture too.) We are a good team and would probably open something like that together.
I am actually NOT a stay at home mom at all! :) I work 40 hours a week at a completely separate job than HC. I have 3 children of my own and 2 step-daughters....4 girls and 1 little redheaded boy, for a total of 5!

4. What is your long term goal with Happy Chance or vision? Are you planning on sticking to online sales or moving into more boutiques?
I think I will always have my online shop, but I would love to be in more boutiques someday! I have just started selling to a boutique here in my hometown. It's been so much fun so far, and my little town is so amazingly supportive of Happy Chance Apparel! I love my customers so much! There is nothing better than going to my son's tee-ball game and seeing a mom wearing her "Happy Girls are Rad" shirt or signing on to IG to see a customer, half way across the country, proudly sharing a picture wearing one of MY designs!

5. How does your blog come in to play with your clothing or is that just a creative outlet to share all about Maryann and the fam?
I initially started my blog, A Happy Chance Life, to help promote my clothing, but I ended up turning it into more of a "this is me" type blog. I can share my photography (I'm a total amateur), memories with my kids, and of course throw Happy Chance Apparel in there too. I also love to share my friend's boutiques and blogs with my readers! I think blogging is so neat because anyone can be a "blogger", and you can literally find blogs about every subject imaginable!

6. Lastly, what is one thing you want people to know about you as the designer and creator of Happy Chance?
hmmm....just one? I guess I would want people to know that I create and design with my children as my inspiration. Each shirt I make will always carry a positive message. I want my kids to feel "forever young" and to know the "road trip rules" when they are old enough to take them. I want my daughters to always remember that "Happy Girls are Rad" and my son to go out into the world and "knock 'em dead". After all, they will be my favorite people "for like ever".  ;)

Arm Candy...

So I have to take a moment to introduce you all the the fabulous gal behind one of my fav shops... Rebecca, sole owner and designer for Paint the Town Me.  I found her on the IG community and her unique and gorgeous jewelry kept popping up in several pictures of fashion bloggers that I follow.  I love, love to accessorize and her stuff is edgy, unique and where boho meets CHIC! My PTTM collection has grown pretty extensively and will continue to grow because she keeps creating some of the most amazing pieces.  Nothing she carries you will find at some mall ladies. And to me that is perfection!  I support small business's and especially ones that not only carry great goods, but are ran by amazing people that are business savvy and have customer service that is out of this world!  That matters to me. Especially since I have retail management in my background as well as being in a customer service based career for the last 13 years. You're only as good as your next client/customer/sale.  Customer service in my book is what keeps you around and gets you referrals.  And weather you are some big department store or working out of your living room... customer service goes a very long way.  And Rebecca knows exactly how to treat her clientele. She not only has amazing jewelry, but she is a total sweetheart.  I can't wait to see her company grow and see what the future holds for she and her family.  Please read my exclusive interview with her below.  I hope you all fall in love as I did and maybe even go visit her on-line store just to take a peak, However, I can't promise you won't leave without snagging something amazing!
XoXo, Britt

1. When did PTTM start? And what made you decide to start your amazing little shop that I have grown to love?
Paint the Town Me started last June! I have always had a love for fashion so it was a natural step for me to take!

2. How did the name Paint the town me come about?
I started just making jewelry for myself then friends & family started requesting. The name came to life when my bestie borrowed my clothes, shoes & jewelry for an event. She said she was ready to "paint the town red" & i said" you're actually painting the town me!" It stuck!

3. Is PTTM your only business venture currently?
Right now PTTM is the only biz i have.

4. You have a pretty full plate..You're a mom, a wifey, business owner... how do you keep it all together?
I'm a wife, mom to three and massage therapist also! Juggling everything can be a huge challenge but working at home is a dream so we all make it work! I love it!

5. Lastly, what is one thing you want everyone to know about you the sole creator of PTTM?
I want everyone to know that I'm a very passionate person who works really hard and cares about each & every one that has shown my business support. I'm inspired daily and have new fun ideas all the time. Nothing would be possible w/o all the love & support i have been shown. I'm so thankful!

A picture says a thousand words...

Many years ago I met an amazingly talented mama at my hair salon.  She was friends with my stylist/friend at the time and she was also a fellow hair stylist there.  Little did I know she would become our family go-to photographer that would capture some of the most breathtaking moments  that are proudly displayed around our home.  Lollipops & Slingshots Photography is owned and operated by the fabulous Theresa.  She uses natural light and has the most amazing technique that keeps me coming back each year.  Her vision or themes for shoots are adorable just as much as each setting is unique because she uses the space she chooses to the fullest as well as incorporates fun props.  And her editing is out of this world!  Her photos have this rustic, natural, authentic vibe about them and to me the photos are timeless and what I will treasure as my children get older. She always does our photo(s) for our holiday cards and will continue for years to come.  She has captured the essence of Jalyn, the love between Miguel & I and the spunk in our monkey, Ella Lou. She is not the photographer that wants those cheesy smiles all the time or same ol same ol poses you see time and again... she captures those candid moments,  those raw moments, those moments that can't be duplicated and those moments that I absolutely love & adore.  I would recommend her to any family in the OC area.  Did I mention what a doll she is?  She not only is talented, but is seriously such a sweetheart.  Please see my interview with with Theresa below and book your families photo sesh, I promise you that you will not be disappointed that you did.
XoXo, Britt

1. How did Lollipops and Slingshots come about and when?

It came about after I had my second child and I decided to be a stay at home Mom and realized I wanted to capture all her little moments along with wonderful moments with her older brother and I didn't even own a camera! I bought a little point and shoot and taught my self how to shoot that as manually as I could (being that it pretty much is auto everything). After about a year I decided I wanted to be a big girl and get a DSLR. I taught myself how to use that and after another year of melting in photography of my kids and still life I was in love with photography and wanted to share my art.

2. When you started your little company did you ever think you would have the success that  you have had?

I didn't have any idea! It just grew and grew and then here I am. I am still very small but I am happy with my little corner of the photography business.

3. You won an award at the fair right?  When and what for?  Any other contests that you have won for your photography?

Actually I won an award for cake design. I know crazy right. Well before I really decided photography was my niche I was deep in the cake decorating field.  I won best in my division a few first places and a second place. I have only gotten an honorable mention for 1 image of my daughter as little red riding hood.

4.  What would you say your style is?  Any professional training or all hands on experience?

My style is traditional and rustic with a modern touch. I totally made that up. I don't know what i would call it. I just know it's different than most photographers in California.

5. What is one thing you pride yourself on that sets your photography away from the masses?
I don't settle on a cheese kind of smile. You know, the ones us Mom's train our kids to do when we are taking pictures of them. LOL! I try and capture moments that identifies my subject. It may be their laughter, crying, staring at me solemnly. I want them to be themselves.

6. What is one thing you want everyone to know about the person behind the lens?

Gosh, I am fun loving, a total nerd and goofy all for my clients.

7. And lastly, what is your long term goal with Lollipops and slingshots?

Just that I would love to do this for many years to come. I want to be able to have parents look at the image of  their children years down the line and feel like they are in that moment again.

Locals Only...

So its not news to the ones that know me well that I am a die hard music junky.  I will listen to just about anything from Nirvana, to the Eagles, to Keith Urban, to Korn, to Kenny G,  to Bone Thugs to  Kutless, to well I think you get the picture.  Heck, I married a musician who was in a rock & roll band when I met him, which leads me to today's feature about a band I met when my hubby was actively performing with his band.  I love to listen and support local bands or up in coming bands or even the musicians that  just perform for the love of music & not for the dream of making it "big" one day.  But the band I am about to introduce you to does have what it takes to make it big and be heard across the radio waves and perform to the masses.  I have personally seen Ceasefire perform a couple times and seconds in to their performance you can tell these guys were made to be performers and share their craft with the world.  They do not just get up on stage and sing behind a mic.  Its a production, a show, a true performance,  a way to reach out to fans old and new.  In my opinion a captivating performance seems to be a lost art form.  However like Ceasefire, if you go and see a Gina & the Eastern Block show out in LA they too know what a true performance is.  The type of performance that rocks your body, moves your soul and makes you feel some type of emotion or takes you to a place in time.  Ceasefire does just that. One of my fav songs of the band's is "Wake Up".  Ray Alexander has a very bold sound and melodic tone, which reminds of the iconic sound of Bono. Gabe Lee, the band's manager granted me an exclusive interview with Ceasefire and I just loved reading their responses to the questions I composed.  Their passion for music, their energy to perfect their craft and their desire to share it all with the world exudes from their responses.  Please take a journey with me and read all about Ceasefire and their love for what they do and their on going journey to share their music with the world....
XoXo, Britt

1. When did the band form? 2011? All Original members? Where did the name originate from?  The band's name was something else prior  to Ceasefire correct?
That is correct, Ceasefire was conceived in 2011. It was the rebirth of a band we started prior to that called Stereofix which was more of an experiment of Post Punk... Ceasefire now includes 3 of the 4 original members of Stereofix, myself (Ray Alexander) on vocals, Kamren Alexander on guitar and Anthony Hainsworth on drums. Our newest member is Tristan Montgomery on the bass guitar. The name Ceasefire came about when we decided to hang up the Stereofix brand and start from scratch with new music, new branding, and a new member. We felt that it represented us as a group, as well as representing our goal of uniting people through music. It is fire and ice, it is peaceful but powerful.

2. What is the bands musical influences as a whole?
We are always influenced by new and old feelings as well as the color that music carries... for example I believe that Classical Rock bands such as Pink Floyd have influenced our desires to capture that rock sound within our guitars. Bands like Joy Division bring forth the darkness and textures within the vocals. While at the same time we like to listen to Hip Hop/Electronic Dance Music for their modern loops, sub bass synths and amazing rhythms. We are all about getting people to move and enjoy the music both on record and at live shows.
3. How many studio albums have they done?
Since our new project Ceasefire, we have been solely focusing on releasing EPs. That being said we have released 2 Eps under the name of Ceasefire. The first was released back in 2011 titled "This Love EP." This EP holds 3 tracks. After this we released a single by the name of "Heaven Knows" in 2012. Our most current EP was released back in August 2013 titled the "In the Dead of Night EP." This EP holds 6 songs currently featuring our track "Wake Up" which has been holding strong on the Top 5 of KROQ Locals Only for over 2 months now
4. Other then KROQ have they been on any other radio stations? Publications?
We did a college radio campaign that placed us on over 200+ stations both internet and standard radio a lot of which are spinning our EP.
We are also currently in rotation on KUKQ Alternative Internet Radio out of Phoenix Arizona placing in their top 5 for 6 weeks in a row.
5. What is one thing the band wants people to know about them and or their music?
As a group we want people to know that our music is a direct expression of our emotions, and life experiences. It is a representation of what we are going through at that particular moment. We want our fans to be able to connect with our music on an emotional level as well as an entertaining level. That being said our fans are growing everyday and their voices are getting bigger, louder, and much more powerful. We need them to know that we hear them, and they are the fuel which inspires us to constantly be developing and creating our craft. They have officially dubbed themselves the Ceasefire Militia, connecting with each other and us from all different parts of the world. For us this creates an even greater responsibility to pump out new music as well as to one day be able to travel and play for them on a global level.
6. What is the next move for them as far as reaching the ultimate goal of being a signed or a mainstream band? Is that their goal?
Our goal is to release a full length album and use that platform to tour nationally/internationally. We definitely want to be able to meet and play for as many people as we possibly can. We are currently working on a brand new Music Video for our song "Wake Up" to hopefully be released by May of 2014. Content is key in the age of music that we live in, so releasing more music and videos is definitely in our immediate future. As far as a record label is concerned they would need to offer us a platform to achieve our goals, then we would definitely consider the option of signing with a major.
7. What is the band's next 2 shows coming up?
  • 04/12/2014 THE VIPER ROOM in Hollywood w/The Filthy Souls
  • 05/16/2014 THE SLIDEBAR in Fullerton, CA

Sparkle Queen...

Networking is truly one of my most favorite things to do and because of that I have gained many relationships professionally and personally over the years that have lasted. I thank my dad for this special gift that I just love!  Meeting people is so fascinating and I truly enjoy it. So I have had the privilege of finding the most amazing community on Instagram! Brilliant, savvy, creative, independent business women who followed their dream and still run a home and take care of their families.  Some even have full time jobs on top of running a small business.  I admire many of them and have gotten to know them through pictures and correspondence on IG. I came across Lola & Darla Designs via another shop and instantly I fell in love!  I mean who does not love to SPARKLE?!!  I have deemed the creator and master-mind behind Lola & Darla the "Sparkle Queen" and I am the "HB Sparkle Addict." A running joke between the two of us since Ella has a pretty extensive collection.  If you check out my FB or IG feed you will see she is a little fashionista and her sparkle takes it to the next level of cuteness! I wish my oldest was not in her tween stage because when she was younger she would have loved these to pieces. Arline (Queen of Sparkle) has created many beautiful gifts for friends and family as well has made my sweet Ella Lou fall in love with sparkle.  I was elated when the Sparkle Queen agreed to answer a few questions for me and my readers. Just an exclusive inside look in to the house of sparkle and the faces behind Lola & Darla Designs.  Please take a moment to fall in love with the lady that coined the term "Always Sparkle" as well as her sweet girls Lola & Darla.  Her driving force to share sparkle with the world and what it truly means to their family.  I assure you that you will be heading over to Etsy to buy your sparkle from Lola & Darla Designs.

1. When did you start your company? I know the driving force to start it was for your sweet Lola and her fierce determination on her journey with autism. Am I right on that note? You used the necklace's as rewards if she was successful in therapy correct? You had posted something on IG few months back that I think I read that on.

Lola and Darla Designs was created in June 2013. I have been designing jewelry since 2004. I used to sell in boutiques in CA, TX, AZ and NY. Yes, Lola definitely inspired me to share sparkle with the world. She had a very demanding therapy schedule. I purchased a necklace for Lola as a reward for all her hard work. It really hit home with Lola that if she did what the therapist was asking for her, she would earn some sparkle. Lola's biggest struggle is with food. She has sensory processing disorder with her mouth. SPD is often compared to us "typical" people being trapped in a small room with a skunk! So when Lola made progress with feeding therapy, I definitely wanted to let her know how proud of her we were! The necklaces I purchased for Lola were cute, but never had enough sparkle. I always took them apart and redesigned them to have as much sparkle as Lola. I would say, "Lola always sparkles. It need to sparkle as much Lola." This is also how we created our slogan, "Always Sparkle."

2. You are a mom to 4 or 5 children and live in Arizona? Born and raised in AZ? You successfully run Lola & Darla Designs, you're mom to your children, you're a wife and run your home.. do you have you have any other business ventures or is your plate pretty full?

I am a mom to 4 children, 5 if you can't my husband! Two boys, two girls. Born and raised in San Antonio, TX. My husband and I also own a small car dealership.

3. I noticed you have expanded past just the necklaces & your T-shirts in the last few weeks (Which I love)... do you plan on expanding your brand more? If so... into retail stores (are you in stores already?) or do you plan on keeping it solely on-line?

Yes, I will always look for new products and ways to spread my love of sparkle! I do have a few more new and very exciting products coming out in the next few weeks! We are currently sold in many retail stores all over the US. We plan to expand our brand even more across the nation by summer 2014.

4. When you started Lola & Darla Designs what was your long term goal or where did you see the company going?  Did you expect it to grow as much as it has?  Do you have a team  behind you to help with the demand that continues to grow?  And are you the sole designer of what is sold?

I honestly could never have dreamed Lola and Darla Designs would have grown as quickly as it has! In just 8 short months, we have had over 3500 sales, not including our wholesale accounts! Lola and Darla Designs is the largest distributor of bubblegum style necklaces in the USA! I really thought I would just be making custom necklaces in my spare time, when I first started. I never dreamed I would be allowed the opportunity to do what I love all day, every day. I definitely have a solid team that works with me. I could never get to where I am today, without The Sparkle Team! I do start and finish each necklace that leaves our shop, but I have a skilled team of professional sparkle handlers that meticulously string beads, answer emails, respond on social media sites and perform quality control of all our merchandise. I am the sole designer of every single product that comes from the brand Lola and Darla Designs.

5.  What is one thing that you love about this very special brand you have created? And what is one thing you want your customers to know about you?
What I love most about my brand is that everything I create is from my heart. I design products that I want my children to love. Our message is simple, Always Sparkle! I want everyone to remember that even when life feels impossible, it isn't. Never give up, never let the ones you love give up. I truly believe Lola's story could have turned out much different than the one we tell today. When she was diagnosed with autism, we had to make a choice. We could choose to let the diagnosis define our daughter, or we could choose to give Lola a chance at redefining autism. There were good days and bad days but Lola never gave up. She defines what it means to Always Sparkle and I love her for that!

Every time I read Arline's responses my heart just gets happy!  The story behind how her company came about just shows such great love and determination to turn an impossible situation (to most) in to something positive with much light at the end of the tunnel!  I hope you have enjoyed this little piece as much as I had writing it and I hope you to have fallen in love and will "Always Sparkle."

She is...

Hello beautiful people!

So today I treated myself to a long over due micro-derm peel and facial.  And let me just tell you it was A-MAZING! Women need to treat themselves to these small moments when they can just take a deep breath, relax and do something for themselves. Especially for us mamas out there! I mean stolen moments for us is a rarity and we love our kids and husbands, but little moments alone is good for the soul. I mean don't get me wrong men can get facials as well and you would be amazed on how many men have a skincare regiment and get facials on a regular basis.   Skincare is HUGE to me and I am religious about my daily and nightly skincare regiment.  One of my dear friends is an amazing esthetician and  has been professionally doing it for about 15 years.  She is professional, knowledgeable and in my opinion proof is in the pudding.... she has beautiful skin!  She does not use or sell anything that she has not already tested or tried on her own skin.  She stands by her products & services.  She is passionate about what she does, she deeply cares about her clientele & she is just really good at what she does. She always tells you the pros & cons of a particular regiment or peel and will also give you different options to address any problem areas or how to achieve beautiful skin.  She has her own business in Orange County and I assure you if you go see her you will not be disappointed.

She is...

Here is a great explanation of what a facial is and why it is good for your skin  What is a facial?

And that is not all my friends.... I am so excited to announce that Amber will be moonlighting on my blog once a month to share beauty trends, amazing beauty products, products that might not be so amazing and to stay away from as well as tutorials down the road of how to achieve the perfect brow, or how to do the best smokey eye.  The possibilities are endless and I am so excited that she agreed to be apart of my blogging journey with you all.  The feature will be called:
 Amber's Beauty Trend & 101

I told you my blogging journey may not have a rhyme or reason & that I may be all over the map, but each post will have purpose. An idea, a tip, an opinion,  an expression of creativity, sharing amazing people and shops/products/services I come across,  music/band reviews, fashion reviews (high-end/low-end), something of value to someone reading out there.  So I hope you all continue to follow me on my journey because truly I am just getting started.
XoXo, Britt

Your Coachella & Stage Coach Headquarters has arrived...

Alright so who is going to Coachella or even Stage Coach in April?  Well do I have a place for you to find your attire for either festival or for you really lucky dogs out there that are going to both festivals... LUNA B is your one stop shop! This fabulous boutique is one of my favorite spots to shop.  Since I had my 2nd child I don't get to frequent in there as much as I used to, but they now have an online store, which for a mom like me is FABULOUS! So I am still able to follow them on Instagram, Facebook and their online shop. I found them many moons ago when they were just a small little up and coming shop in Huntington Beach.  The store manager had a brilliant idea of marketing the store on social media and posting the weekly shipments to create a buzz and her idea took the shop to a whole other level. No one was doing anything like Luna B and other local stores actually caught on and tried to duplicate what they were doing.  They have since been able to not only expand their HB location, but also open a store in Laguna Niguel as well as launching their online website so everyone can shop their amazing clothing and accessories.  I just love how the store has grown and it is nice to see how their handwork has truly paid off.  When I frequented the shop everyone knew me on first name basis (shhhh... don't tell my husband) and the girls knew my size, what looked good on me or what I might like.  The staff was out of this world! Professional, knowledgeable and the customer service truly is what made me a Luna B lifer. And having some retail management background myself, I know how important customer service is and how it can really make you or break you.  The girls have a good role model in their manager Raha, who just really knows retail and knows people. Which in my opinion is a true craft that not just anyone can master. The store follows the latest trends and carries the latest designers... Wild Fox, UNIF, For Love and Lemons and One Teaspoon and Gypsy Junkies just to name a few.  And guess what? Trend alert as well as something that is perfect for these festivals...Fanny Packs are back & LunaB has em!  So go check em out I am positive you find something you love.
XoXo, Britt
